Foot Massage and Foot Reflexology
For stress relief and relaxation, foot reflexology gets straight to the (pressure) point.
Your feet serve as your body’s foundation, supporting and transporting you throughout your day. That is one of the reasons we offer foot reflexology massage as a cornerstone of our service.
A step beyond foot massage, foot reflexology delves deeper and reaches further.
What is foot reflexology? And how does it differ from a foot massage?
A foot massage focuses attention on the tissue of your foot. Massage uses pressure to loosen and realign your muscles, improve circulation and help you to relax. Foot reflexology provides similar benefits, but it does so through the precise manipulation of pressure or reflex points located in the feet.
Reflex points or pressure points are nerve endings that trigger an automatic response to stimuli called a “reflex action.” With over 7,000 reflex points, your foot has a higher density of nerve endings per square centimeter than any other part of your body.
Reflex actions most often occur in response to pain or another threat to the body. But, these reactions can also be intentionally triggered. When your physician taps you knee to trigger your patellar reflex you are experiencing a reflex action. It is from the engagement of these reflex points that the practice of reflexology gets its name.
During your foot reflexology session, Barefoot Oasis’s trained reflexologists will apply pressure to select points on the top, sides, and soles of your feet, stimulating your reflexes and your nervous system as a whole.
What are some of the benefits of foot reflexology?
Archaeological records indicate that some form of foot and hand therapy has been practiced by many different civilizations for thousands of years. Evidence of past societies’ use of foot massage has been found in India, Egypt, China, Japan and North and South America, and the practice continues today.
Our process of foot reflexology induces a physical and emotional state of relaxation through the use of touch, environment and firmly applied pressure to key reflex points.
At the end of a Barefoot Oasis foot reflexology session, you should feel relaxed, rejuvenated and free of stress—or as one customer recently wrote, like you are “walking on air.”
